Elona Prroj

This week’s guest has a story which is hard to understand.  I learned about Elona Prroj, a young, Albanian woman, from Ron Harris who has met Elona face-to-face and heard her testimony.  I was hoping I, too, might meet Elona someday and ask her to join us on FIRST PERSON.  After a couple of years, it didn’t look likely that we would be able to meet in person, so we arranged a Skype phone call and Elona told me about the death of her husband, Tani, an Albanian pastor.

Tani died at the hand of a gunman who was taking revenge for a murder committed by one of Tani’s relatives– a murder for which Tani was completely innocent.  However, because of the ancient tradition of a “blood feud” in Northern Albania, Tani was targeted and eventually murdered, leaving his wife to raise two children and carry on his ministry.

Elona’s story of trial and faith is one of the most gripping accounts of a couple committed to serving Christ at any cost I’ve ever heard.  After you listen, please share your comments atFacebook.com/FirstPersonInterview.

Randy Alcorn

alcorn-perspectiveDuring these summer months, we are reaching back into the FIRST PERSON archive and re-playing some popular interviews from the recent past. This week, we go back to 2011 and an interview with author and speaker Randy Alcorn.  This is what we said when it first aired in 2011:

“I’ve known Randy Alcorn as an author and even interviewed him a few times over the years.  However, a couple of months ago we found ourselves among many who attended the red carpet screening of the movie COURAGEOUS.  Randy was there because he wrote the excellent novelization of COURAGEOUS, and I was there for interviews.  Somehow, late that night we ended up at the same all-night diner following the movie, along with FIRST PERSON producer, Joe Carlson. It was a very enjoyable late night with friends. While there wasn’t time to interview Randy on the spot that night (and the diner was far too noisy!), I decided that I would call him soon afterwards to talk with me on FIRST PERSON.”

John Wallace

wallace-perspectiveJohn Wallace knows Latter-day Saints. He held temple recommendation and Elders Quorum presidencies for years. He examined the Bible for what he believed and read the Book of Mormon cover-to-cover repeatedly. But a seed of doubt was planted in him during his high school years that eventually grew too large for him to stay a Mormon. He knew he could never be perfect on his own. He could not prove his worthiness to live with his Heavenly Father. If he had to be made perfect, it would have to be by someone else. That someone was Jesus Christ who died on the cross and, as a result, salvation is by grace through faith, not by works.

John is the author of Starting at the Finish Line: The Gospel of Grace for Mormons, and you’ll hear his story this week on FIRST PERSON.
