It was a mixture of emotions to hear the news a few days ago that Ravi Zacharias had died on May 19, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. Sadness, because we will miss his passion for the gospel, but joy in that he is with his Lord. I immediately thought back to 1983 and the first time I heard Ravi speak. It was at the Billy Graham conference for itinerant evangelists held in Amsterdam. Unknown to me at that time, I turned to a friend on our broadcast team and asked who was this Indian-born man who spoke the Gospel with such power and intellect. My friend responded that we would be hearing much from Ravi in the years ahead as he was an evangelist gifted with a great mind to reach thinking people.
This FIRST PERSON interview with Ravi was recorded in 2011 when I asked him to sit down with me in Nashville and reflect on his troubled early life. One question I asked back then was why he spent so much time and effort on writing books when he was in such a demand to travel and speak. You’ll hear his poignant response as you listen.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 11:00 am ET and will be available online on YouTube and Facebook. For more information and the links to the live and archived service, visit www.RZIM.org.
